The World Outdoors: Hamilton birder’s podcasts a joy for keen, beginner birders

On Oct. 14, southern Ontario birder Rob Porter launched an excellent podcast called Songbirding. It is a joy to listen to.

For keen birders who, in the fall, miss spring forests filled with singing birds, Porter’s podcasts might simply be a balm through the fall and winter. For continuous learners, having Porter talk you through the tick notes of a black-and-white warbler will be instructional. And for a casual nature lover, the virtual birding hikes that he leads might have a meditative aspect.

Porter is an accomplished birder and bird photographer. He also is active with the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club as the organization’s director of outdoor events and field trip leader. Although he lives in Hamilton, he has recorded all of the episodes…
