Variety under fire for saying Conan O’Brien started podcasts

I can’t tell if I’m more shocked at the audacity to suggest Conan made podcasts hip, or that Conan HAS a podcast.

Remember, nothing actually exists until a celebrity gets involved.

@SFF180, criticizing Variety for a story that cites podcasts by Conan O’Brien as a driver of the medium’s popularity. Variety calls O’Brien the “darling of the podcasting world” and dubs podcasts a “brave new world.” Baffled Twitter users noted podcasts were around for a decade before “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” launched last November.

I didn’t even know Conan HAD a podcast. Also by “driving” I think you mean “showing up fifteen years late, carrying Starbucks”.
