Interview with “Free Meek” Composers Jacob Yoffee and Roahn Hylton

Meek Mill, born Robert Rihmeek Williams, is one of Philadelphia’s most favored sons, and one of rap’s most exciting new voices. Unfortunately, he’s also been the subject of an ongoing relationship with the American criminal justice system, one historically and pathologically committed to punishing young black men at a disproportionate rate. After one fateful night in 2008, where he was convicted of drug dealing, gun possession and a host of other offenses (the details of which are still in debate), Meek has spent the last eleven years vacillating between parole and brief stints in prison.
