

As Ijeoma “Dr. IJ” Ononuju and Brandon “Priest D” Johnson took the next step in their life in the podcast world, they realized they may as well have walked into a Country Music Awards show.
Here they were, former Vallejoans now in Elk Grove, joining 4,000 others in Seattle for “Pod-Con,” a convention of podcast producers — basically an all-white gathering.
“We walked in and I’m like, ‘We don’t need to be here.’ We literally just sat here for 20 minutes. We were stereotyping them like they were stereotyping us,” said Johnson, laughing that he did his best to not appear intimidating.
