Apple Podcasts, which was launched on iTunes back in 2005, has achieved a new feat of 50-billion all-time downloads and streams. Many of us might think podcasts ‘uncool’ in the video-dominated days of present times but according to Apple, its podcasts is home to over 525,000 ‘active’ shows with over 18.5 million episodes, and content available in over 100 languages.
As Fast Company reports, Apple Podcasts span the globe, covering 155 countries with 29 groupings of localized editorial. If one looks at the 13-year-old history, not only the podcast content has increased, the fanbase too has surged. In 2014, 7 billion podcast downloads were recorded. Two years later, the number increased to 10.5 billion, and last year it surged to 13.7 billion episode downloads and streams across podcasts and iTunes.
