“Do you have a podcast?” I finally ask.
“Yeah,” she says, shrugging. “But who doesn’t?”
Fair question. In the last decade there’s been a podcast explosion, in terms of both content and audience. There are now over 700,000 podcasts to choose from, with thousands more arriving each week. In 2008, nine per cent of Americans listened to podcasts every month; now around a third of them do. In the middle of last year the first Podcast Intelligence Report was released in Australia. It found that with 3.5 million listeners, one in four Australians between 16 and 64 were regular podcast users.

And with the news earlier this year that Spotify had bought podcast companies Gimlet and Anchor for $US340 million, it’s obvious the big players are realising there’s money to be made in the sector.
