Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is one of the least popular politicians in the country, and yet he has exerted significant power over the direction of the U.S. government.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is enormously powerful. The Republican from Kentucky has called himself the Grim Reaper, vowing to block any Democratic priorities coming out of the House. Last week, he blocked election security bills meant to protect the 2020 elections from Russian interference.
