“I think there used to perhaps be an expectation that over a certain age, you should wear something really tasteful and ‘age appropriate’, and by that I mean a bit boring and quiet,” says Charlie Gowans-Eglinton. “Susan Sarandon is 72 and she wears really low-cut dresses, off-the-shoulder, thigh-high slits: it’s changing the narrative of what a woman in her seventies looks like. She’s not wearing a tasteful two piece suit and politely stepping aside to let the twenty year old come in in her ballgown.”
